Dear Resident
A new Neighbourhood Policing Inspector has been appointed to lead the Broxbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, bringing more than 20 years of experience and a strong commitment to community-focused policing.
Inspector Matt Langley, who has moved from his role as a Response Inspector in Watford, joins with a wide-ranging background across Hertfordshire Constabulary, having served in frontline, investigative and leadership roles throughout his career.
He began his policing journey in St Albans as a response officer before moving into crime investigation teams and later returning to frontline policing. Much of his early service was spent across St Albans, Hatfield, and surrounding areas.
Matt later took on a key role as a Police Development Unit assessor in Watford, where he supported and mentored new officers entering the service.
He was subsequently promoted to sergeant, leading response teams before moving into neighbourhood policing, where he spent five years working closely with communities and delivering local initiatives.
During this time, he led work on burglary prevention, SmartWater schemes and community safety projects, as well as supporting policing efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and major operational deployments.
After progressing to inspector, Matt continued to build his leadership experience across both response and neighbourhood policing roles. He has now taken up post in Broxbourne, where he is keen to build strong relationships with residents and partners.
Outside of policing, Matt lives with his partner Helen, who is a detective within the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Major Crime Unit, and their Labrador Loki. He enjoys travelling, live music and photography.
Speaking about his appointment, Matt said: “I’m really pleased to be joining the Broxbourne team and getting to know the communities we serve. Neighbourhood policing is about building trust, understanding local concerns, and making a visible difference where it matters most.”
As part of his early priorities in the role, Matt is placing a strong emphasis on community engagement and ensuring local policing priorities reflect the issues that matter most to residents.
To support this, members of the public are being invited to share their views through a short online survey, which will help shape neighbourhood policing activity across the borough.
He added: “Engaging with the community is key. We want to hear directly from residents about what concerns them so we can focus our efforts in the right places and continue to improve the service we provide.”
Alongside strengthening engagement, Matt will focus on tackling crimes that have the greatest impact on local people and ensuring the team works proactively to reduce harm and keep communities safe.
